Our little man has started to walk… very proud.
Over the weekend prior to Daddy Daycare, Taylor had started to build up the confidence to take a couple of steps from his mum to dad. It would be more of a stagger than a walk, but we were still really chuffed that our little man had started to take his few first steps, prior to his eleven month birthday coming around.
Then on the Monday of Daddy Daycare, us boys were messing around, chasing the dog as we do. I was sitting on the play mat and Jonty wandered on by and jumped up on to the sofa, safely out of reach of little fingers…or so he thought. Before I knew what was happening, Taylor was taking more than just a few steps to get from the play mat to the sofa to go “pat” doggy. I’m not sure who was more surprised, me, Jonty or Taylor. I was so chuffed with our boys achievement, but I think Jonty was thinking “oh Christ, I’m going to have to come up with a Plan B”.
For the rest of that day, us boys were practicing this new walking game which Taylor had discovered and we begin to plot our little surprise for mum. Every day of Daddy Daycare, we go have lunch with Anj and then around 5.45pm, we pick up Anj so she can give Taylor one last feed before he hits the sack. Well, on this day, we got to the hospital a little early, so that we were there waiting when mum came down from the ward. As Anj appeared at the entrance to the hospital, I put Taylor down from carrying him and asked if he wanted to walk to mum. He played the game and walked to his mum, which resulted in a very surprised and happy mum. 🙂
Since then, the little man has just been growing in confidence with his stomping around and is now walking the entire length of our hallway, which is about five meters long. We’re pretty sure that by the time his birthday comes around next month, he’ll be toddling around like he’e always been able to walk. Now the next step is to get Taylor kicking that football!
